Description
Based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth; the story follows twenty-two year old Jenny, who in 1957 leaves her comfortable home to become a midwife in London's East End slums. She expects to find a hospital, and is surprised to find that the clinic is a convent: Nonnatus House. Working alongside her fellow nurses and the medically-trained nuns, Jenny has her eyes opened to the harsh living conditions. But she also discovers the warm hearts and the bravery of the mothers; each one a heroine in Jenny's eyes.

- Season 1: 4. Episode #1.4 (2012). Margaret Jones moves into the area with husband David and Cynthia becomes her midwife. Sadly Margaret contracts pre-eclampsia which seals the fate of herself and her child and Cynthia is deeply moved by David's devotion to his wife. Baby Gillian Redmond is snatched from her pram and everybody in the locality sets out to search for her. Ultimately Jenny is instrumental in her retrieval though the encounter with the culprit is painful for her. In fact he is dying of pancreatic cancer but refuses hospital admission as he and his sister were raised in a work-house and he has a fear of all institutions. - Season 2: 2. Episode #2.2 (2013). Cynthia delivers Irene Kelly's baby son successfully but the child dies next day. There is a post mortem, in the run up to which mothers are mistrustful of Cynthia,who begins to blame herself and doubt her confidence,walking out on a birth. However she is relieved when the post mortem exonerates her. Jenny meets former boyfriend Jimmy but he is engaged to a girl whom he does not love because he has got her pregnant.
